The attack happened in the Bolton store
A man has been arrested in Bolton after allegedly using a needle to prick a security officer who apprehended him as he attempted to make off from Sainsbury’s with £300 worth of items.
The man is accused of making off with the goods on Tuesday (February 25) after concealing them on his person. When he was approached by security staff, police say he assaulted them by ‘dragging them’ outside the store and using a needle to prick their hands.
Officers have now arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and theft. Police said when he was approached in Bolton this morning he was found with stolen goods from Poundland.
In a post on Facebook, the force said: “Thanks to assistance from the Central Bolton Partnership, we have this morning detained a male who was involved in an incident at Sainsburys on Tuesday 25th February.
“The male is alleged to have entered the store, concealed £300 worth of stock on himself, and attempted to leave without making any attempt to pay. When stopped by security staff, he has assaulted them by dragging them outside the store and using a needle to prick their hand, before making off with the goods.
“The male, aged 23, was spotted in Bolton Town Centre this morning and quickly detained after a brief struggle with officers. At the time of his arrest, he has been found in possession of items stolen from Poundland minutes earlier.
“He has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and theft, and remains in custody for questioning.”
