IN LOCAL HISTORY
• 60 YEARS AGO — Two young Brandon brothers, Grant and Brian Trump, swimming with the Camp Shilo Goldeyes, fared well at the Winnipeg swimming championships. Grant won a gold, silver and bronze and placed fourth in two other categories. Brian placed fourth in one cate- gory and fifth in two others.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Olympians defeated the Wolves 3-1 in Brandon Senior Soccer League action. Bruce Clark, Greg Kindrat and Doug Brown scored for the winners while Bill Clark replied for the Wolves.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Shannon Carruthers and Alana Tutty of the Brandon Eagles Gymnastics Club won events in a Manitoba championship meet at BU. Carruthers was the Tryo Level III overall champion, finishing first in the vault, bars and beam. Tutty topped the Argo Level III division, winning floor exercises.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Neelin’s Aumna Enns crushed two home runs and knocked in a total of seven runs as the Spartans edged the Hamiota Huskies 15-14 in a Brandon High School Fastball League girls’ double-header. Jaime Eastman was the winning pitcher for Neelin.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Four players had multiple-goal games and the Vincent Massey Vikings varsity girls soccer team thumped the Crocus Plainsmen 12-0 in Brandon High School Soccer League action at Crocus Plains. Cesha Hedley led the way for the Vikings with four goals, Amanda Thornborough added three and Danielle Rocan and Lauren Cottom each had two. Stephanie Richards had a single goal for Massey.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Danielle Wallace scored a pair of goals to help the Crocus Plainsmen secure home-field advantage for the Brandon High School Soccer League girls’ semifinal. Tatiana Dowd supplied the other marker and Kendall Omeljanow earned the clean sheet in the host Plainsmen’s 3-0 victory over the Neelin Spartans (0-4). Crocus finished second in the three-team league with a 2-2 record.
